RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Those dirty rotten bastidges!!!! Have you all seen the CVO Road King? Chopped rear end, hard leather saddlebags, custom seat with backrests. Damn! I liked the Street Glide, but couldn't hang with a fairing in the middle of summer, but that freakin' $32K Road King is a sweeeeeeeeeet ride! 110" stroker with a 6th gear doesn't hurt either. I really thought my '05 RKC was the ultimate, but..... CVO Road King to Challenge the Custom

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Greenman Thank You for your reply. went online about " Fellowship of the Kings" and it said it's a computer game and thought there might be another meaning. I was guessing that it might be a group of Road King riders. Now I know. I live in up state NY This warm weather is beautiful but it is killing me. Want to get out and ride but I'm laid up with a bad shoulder {had a rotator cuff operation 4 wks ago} Hope I can ride for Rolling Thunder, hate to miss it. I ride 05 Road King Custom,Black Cherry Pearl. Changed the stock seat with a Mustang touring seat and put Vance Hines exhaust {Big Shot Duals}with V.H. fuel-pak. Some different than my old 78 FLH. Never had a bike I liked better than this 05 RKC. Do you ever ride up here in the Adirondacks? Later Kpapa Welcome to the Group! You are the proud owner of a (now) collectible American Icon. I'm in Northern California these days, but 25+ years ago I lived in Rome NY, attended Rome Free Academy, and partied in Utica, Syracuse, Watertown, etc., etc. So....did ya keep the pullback beach bars or replace them? I kept mine and I love them now.

Which means: I will have the chance to see some of you guys in PERSON! As work permits, I should be able to hang around a location for an extra day or so, rent a scoot (Road Kings ONLY please) and ride. All I would like is someone to ride with! If'n Y'all make it t'NorCal, swing by. I promise I won't make you ride She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed's Honda.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

G'day from Australia..I bought my RKC in december 06 and have done 16,000 km so far including a ride of 8000km last xmas and i love it! I hated the standard bars and put genuine Harley STREET SLAMMERS on they work fine for me, also put sundowner touring seat with both backrests which are left off around town, tinted medium screen, braided brake lines,pc111,k&n filter,true-track,2"extended forks for a bit more ground clearance, and tailgunner rotary cannon cans with true duel headers and i get heaps of great comments about my bike and 1 last thing its sunglo colour looks great with the black and chrome especially when the tinted screen is on,its my first Harley and i'll never regret buying it RKC's are a class ride. G'day Cobber! Congratulations on being the proud owner of a soon-to-be iconoclastic piece of American iron. One of these days I'll get back to Oz and see what it's like to ride there. I had a short visit there 20 years ago with the US Air Force and the only bikes I saw were the posties. Scary.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Hello everyone! My name is Carey Foley, I live in Fort Myers, FL and I'm originally for Indiana. Since everyone seams to be on a sports topic my team is the Colts... I picked up my Lava Red RKC Saturday from St. Petersburg, FL and took it for a little ride for about 2.5 hours home. Its a 2004 with a lot of extras. I shopped around for a few weeks and I beleive I got the right bike and a great deal... One of my first questions to you guys would be about the squeaking brakes. I briefly read something about this before I bought the bike so my expectation were already somewhat set. Should I pursue getting the dealership to help me with this or is there a secret/simple fix??? Congratulations on buying the newest H-D collector's edition. The brake squeal can be easily fixed by flipping the rotors. The stealership can do it, but so can any local wrench. You can do it yourself, but remember...those two wheels are what's between you and the asphalt. Don't do it unless you know what you're doing. Once you've switched the rotors (left for right & vice-versa) the bike will stop quietly. You'll hear the RKC squeal if you brake while walking it backwards. You won't get rid of the scraping noise. That's permanent. Enjoy your custom. I regularly hit the twisties on mine and, while I still move over for the 'busas, I've given a Ninjette or two something to think about as I passed them.

ROFL..... I was trying to spare you guys..but since Greenman insists..here is the only part of the Dolphins organization worth paying attention to: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/11/08/gallery.nflcheerleaders/1.jpg Nice curves. Too bad they're the only curves in your neck of the woods. How's a guy gonna scrape the foot boards on US 1?

RE: High Mileage

Jeez, I've put 13K this year on my '05 Road King Custom and I'm nowhere near ready to hang up my leathers. Maybe it depends on the part of the country and the expectations about how much time you can ride?

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Thought I heard a new rattle and yep broke a muffler support that ran down the back side of the rear fender. Now I have a rattle in the nacelle a bit and thought I heard an exhaust whiff here and there. Sure enough the rear pipe is cracked near the cylinder . 180 for a new one. And the rear brake switch quit on me too. I just had the same support break. Just ordered a replacement. The parts guy told me I was the third person that week replacing the left side support. Seems the MoCo has a problem with that particular piece. Luckily (knocks wood) I haven't had the pipe crack.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

So, hate to change the subject, but let's get back to baby needing new shoes. Last time around, I wanted Metzler 880s, but there was a delivery prob and I wanted to ride.....right now! dammit! Given that, I put a brand new Dunlop on the back and it lasted 18k miles. The wear bars were starting to poke through, but even in the rain I didn't notice any probs. At 18K miles, I wasn't comfortable continuing to ride on it, so I took the scoot into my local indy wrench last weekend and put..yep...another Dunlop on the back. When the front goes again, I'm thinking I may put a stock tire on the front again also...particularly if I keep getting this kind of mileage. So here's my question: Do I just check my tire pressure too often and spend waaaaaaaaaay too much time making sure I'm neither over nor under, or are these Dunlops, while not the most comfortable shoes, pretty f'ing good?

RE: Fellowship of the Kings Get Together

I was at a motorcycle/car show in Woodland, CA wearing my vest with my FOTK patch when somebody asked me about it, telling me that they'd just seen exactly the same patch on someone else. Unfortunately I never found the other guy. If it was one of you who are still around, check in. I'm up for some kind of get-together, but I'm in NorCal. Seems like most of us are on the East Coast....Not that there's anything wrong with that.

RE: To the Question...why ride a Harley...here is the answer.

So I ride in NorCal where lane splitting is legal. What with a 3-day weekend, my ride this evening from San Francisco to Dixon was brutal. It took about an hour and a half. I'da been in the cage, It'da been 3 hours easy. On a couple of occassions, I found myself behind riders who were frantically revving their engines to no good effect. I've found getting right in the middle of the rear view mirror with the high beam on gets most folks to give me the few inches I need. The horn works on most of the others. Here where splitting's legal, there are some basic rules of thumb: Most trucks with union bumper stickers will pull way over and let you through. Convertibles with the top down tend to let you through, top up posers screw with you. Big, fancy SUVs will deliberately try to get in your way. Cops, on or off duty, will always pull over a bit and let you through. Same with anyone with a fire dept "family" sticker in the back window. Anybody with a "W" sticker will deliberately try to kill your ass. Pickup trucks with Harley decals, strangely, will totally block. Black women, regardless of their ride, same way.
